The imprint of fingers in clay. The hollows and ridges left by the hand, searching for the form of a face. The folds and contours of eyes, noses, mouths, ears, cheeks and necks.Through the movement of the camera and the writing of light, these forms shift, dissolve and reappear. What is fixed in clay becomes fluid in the photograph.Shadows deepen, contours blur, light reveals what the eye could not perceive in the original form.A character emerges, a singularity, a gaze, an expression.Or perhaps only the impression of a presence.A multitude of greys, blacks and whites, invisible in the clay itself, come into being through the photographic gesture. The photograph does not simply record the sculpture. It transforms it, revealing possibilities that remain hidden within the matter. It is through movement that the unexpected becomes visible. Each gesture leaves its own trace, each exposure brings forth another presence. What appears belongs neither entirely to the clay nor to the photograph, but to the encounter between matter, light and movement. Each image carries the truth of an instant. No two photographs are alike.
